Our World Needs You

Why Health Insurance matters more than ever…

Doug’s Story

This month, I want to share a story that is very close to my heart. Years ago, I had an employee named Doug. He was my right hand — dedicated, loyal, and someone who believed in our vision. Doug showed up every day, worked hard, and was a huge part of what we were building. But one day, Doug didn’t come to work. He didn’t answer his phone. After contacting his emergency contact, his sister, I became even more concerned. She told me she hadn’t heard from him either, which was unusual. I went to his home, where his roommates let me in. When I finally managed to get into his room, I found Doug unconscious. He had passed away. Later, an autopsy revealed the cause: undiagnosed high blood pressure. Doug had never gone for a physical. He didn’t have a doctor. He didn’t have health insurance.

Why I’m Sharing This

Doug’s story is a tragic reminder that health is everything. Something as simple as preventative care — a physical, a check-up, a doctor’s visit — might have changed the outcome.

It leaves me to ask:

  • Do you have health insurance?
  • Do your employees have health insurance?
  • When was the last time you went for a check-up or physical?

My Mission

At Safe Haven Insurance, it is my mission to make sure that everyone — individuals, families, and businesses — has access to health insurance and wellness benefits. We work with companies of all shapes and sizes to make sure employers and employees are protected. The good news is that there are great health plans that cost virtually nothing, and many include preventative care and wellness programs that can keep your team healthier, happier, and more productive.

Final Thought

Doug’s story is one that will stay with me forever. It’s a reminder that health insurance isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity. My mission is to help ensure that no family or business has to experience what Doug’s family went through.
